TYPES OF WORKING POSITIONS IN THE UNITED STATE OF AMERICA.

If you are new or about to step-in, in this job market then you are supposed to be clear through all those terms or factors which concerns your career. And if you are an International student or say an Immigrant in the United States of America then put everything besides and gather as much as genuine and authentic information regarding your career and all legal process, because your single unintentional mistake can be enough to send you back to your home town or home country soon.

After you complete your required education whether, in STEM or non-STEM field, there are 4-5 options based on the mode of working.

In simple language, when you start marketing your Resume to employers, you will get chosen based on the working hours, benefits (govt. & non-govt.), payrolls and etc. These are nothing but kind of working and earning options.

Basically, there are five working options, which you will get after your education as below :

Full-time
Part-time
W2
1099 MICS
C2C

FULL-TIME POSITION

This is the most demanded job position among employees & employers. Actually, this is considered as a golden opportunity as it is inclusive of all good aspects including hard work.

As this is an opportunity, you have qualified for this. The employees have to meet certain time-work limit as set by the employer’s will under legal lawsuit to be a full-time employee.

Let’s consider a few points of pros & cons to understand it better:

PROS FOR FULL-TIME POSITION
You will get rid of your Medicare & health insurance.
You will get paid holidays or vacations.
You will get sick leaves or personal leave.
You will get all the govt. benefits easily.
CONS FOR FULL-TIME POSITION
You will not get increments in payroll shortly.
You will not get much time for yourself or love ones.
You will not get much time from your work away.
You will be mostly surrounded by the stress as most would be on your work.

You can also conclude it as, the hard you will work now, easy & relaxing retirement benefits you will get in FULL-TIME POSITION.

PART-TIME POSITION

This is most popular among students who are pursuing higher education and looking for some kind of experience to put some weight on their resume, this is also a paid job.

You can count this as an internship but be specific if you want to earn money & experience or just experience.

Because there are few companies which offer a non-paid internship to students in their educational field to give them on-field exposures.

Let’s consider a few points of pros & cons to understand it better:

PROS FOR PART-TIME POSITION
You will get practical knowledge of your theory studies.
You will get experience which will boost your chances of getting a job of your choice.
You will get time to be familiar with your job before you plan to become a full-time employee.
You will get money no matter how much, as something is better than nothing.
CONS FOR PART-TIME POSITION
You will not get paid-internship, particularly in your educational field so easily.
You will not get half of the benefits as one can aspect in a full-time position even you are working on half-time of a full-time position.
You will not get much earning as per your work type and time.
You will not get much time to focus on your studies.

You can also conclude it as, work to learn not to earn because your mostly earning will be consumed as pocket money.

W-2 POSITION

This is kinda contract-based working module. In this, you will be working under employers’ rules & regulations as set by govt., but when it comes to taxes and benefits, you are self-employed, means you’ll have to pay self-employed tax which will be around 6.5-7% of your payroll excluding other taxes.

Basically, W-2 is a form which an employer sends to their employee & IRS (Internal Revenue Service) mentioning the financial accounting of employee including their annual income, amount to be paid as tax and so on. This process starts in January and runs until early February.

If you are employed under W-2 position then you will not get much of the benefits as one gets under full-time position. But you might get increments and rid of lengthy working hours.

You will not get benefits (paid leave, health insurance, 401K, paid public holidays, paid sick leaves) which one gets in a full-time position.
You will not be able to do multiple jobs as you were allowed only one employer.
You will not get any tax concession means to manage your tax by yourself.
You are not self-employed but have to pay a considerable amount as a self-employment tax.

1099-MISC POSITION

Let’s consider a few points of pros & cons to understand it better:

PROS FOR 1099 MISC POSITION
You will get a job as self-employed, kinda project or assignment based.
You will get a chance to be your own boss, set your deadline and inform the employer.
You will get multiple employers if you want to work with others also.
You will get your own work schedule prepared by yourself.
CONS FOR 1099 MISC POSITION
You will not get payroll benefits (paid leave, health insurance, 401K, paid public holidays, paid sick leaves).
You will not get any help or support except the salary which means work on own supplies & tools.
You will not be considered as a regular employee means no on-book record about yourself.

C2C POSITION:

Corp-2-Corp is a contract in which one corporation hires another corporation and pay the salaries for the work of another corporation.

To work under C2C position employee must have a business S-corp or an LLC. You might need to go through few paper-works but, in this position, you will be given every single benefit one full-time employee gets. Here you can even hire someone to work under. You will get all necessary help & support by the govt. including ban loans and tax concession for a start-up business. Here you don’t have to pay taxes from your pockets as these things will be handled by your employer.

You will get rid of all paper-works regarding taxes.
You will get a chance to hire people to work for you
You will be kinda self-employed but no need to pay self-employment tax.

CONS FOR C2C POSITION
You will not get paychecks on weeakly bases.
You will not get payment cleared till a month and sometimes even twice.
You will be needed money for starting your business and a bit long & tired paper-work process for start-ups.
You will not have any job security or permanent contract.
